D-STAR Info

DSTARInfo and Georgia D-STAR will be hosting a one-day workshop to provide information and training on all levels of D-STAR.  Classes will be organized to allow participants on all levels from new users to repeater system administrators gain knowledge about D-STAR’s digital voice and data technology.

D-STAR InfoCon will be held at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, Georgia, just 30 minutes northeast of downtown Atlanta. Participants can choose from informative, hands-on classes to get you started for the new D-STAR user to more advanced topics for experienced users.

To correspond with National Science Week, St Cyres schools in Penarth and Dinas Powis in South Wales UK will be operating Special Event stations as part of the school curriculum science projects.

Barry Amateur Radio Society will be operating GB2SCP from Penarth and GB2SCD from Dinas Powis, under supervision we aim to get schoolchildren to communicate with Radio operators across the world on this event.

The event will operate for a short period of time, from approx 11:30 UTC until school close probably around 15:00 UTC on Wednesday 16th March 2011.

We will be using Reflector 36C for the event and are likely to link GB7CD in Cardiff and MB6BA simplex link in Barry for this event, we would welcome any contacts via Reflector 36C for the duration of the event.

As well as operating on D-Star the schools will also be operating on the HF Bands with both voice and PSK Modes being employed.

The school is being judged for a national award on this event and are currently third based on the work they have done leading to this event, with your help we would like to get them into first place and win this national award.

We've done a dramatic update to the D-STAR Information Web Site! We've moved it from a basic HTML type of web into a content management system that allows for much easier editing and additional features. We've tried to keep all of the content from the old site, let us know if there's anything that we are missing. Are anything else that you would like to see.

We're still fine-tuning some of the pieces and we'd love to hear your input.

The Atlanta Radio Club has purchased an Icom IC-2820H for use at the Amateur Radio station at the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City, Georgia.  The Peachtree City office serves most of Georgia.  The D-STAR radio will allow NWS to collect additional weather information via Amateur Radio.   Adding D-STAR to the Amateur Radio capabilities at the station will connect the office to other D-STAR repeaters across Georgia and allow storm spotting and weather reports from places not currently served by other linked FM repeater systems in the state.  In addition, Peachtree City office can receive information from neighboring states such as Alabama where thuderstorm and tornado activity frequently originates before passing into Georgia.  D-STAR also allows direct conectivity with other weather service offices in Alabama, Florida and South Carolina, the State Operations Center at Georgia Emergency Management and many county Emergency Operations Centers in Georgia.  The new radio should be installed and in operation soon to be ready for the Spring severe weather season.

The ircDDB software was developed to enable fast and reliable call sign routing. The "Live Log" and the "LastHeard" list are just a "by-product" of this functionality. After February 20th, 2011, every ham radio operator can choose whether his/her call sign will appear in the "Live Log" and the "LastHeard" list or not. So, this is just about visibility of your data on the Internet. Call sign routing works the same way as before. You don't have to enable Internet visibility for your call sign in order to use a repeater.
